Join the dots…
January 24, 2008‘Blogging is all about connecting the dots (referencing, linking and aggregating).’
I like this quote from the week 2 instructions. And it’s timely for me as I tend to use my blog for my own musings and forget that it is about connecting. Otherwise I might as well be writing in my diary. I’m always pleasantly surprised when someone comments to find that I do have an audience occasionally! So thanks for the reminder : )

Yes, Karen you have an audience.
I like this image of connecting the dots. Sometimes the dots get out of the original drawing and that’s magic.
That audience is indeed important. But more than audience, I think, is the exchange of ideas. It is fun to have someone comment, isn’t it? But when they really add to the discussion, we all benefit. I think that’s what Gabriella was referring to when she talked about the dots getting out of the original drawing — or maybe that is just my meandering outside her drawing!
Yes, that’s what I meant. A comment can trigger new thoughts and it can even make you move from your original position. I f2f conversations we tend to stand by our ideas. Comments give us time to reflect, we don’t need to answer immediately.
I think your attitude towards blogging when you say you “forget about connecting” is simply part of a process. I know that I did the same when I started blogging. And I still do it from time to time.
I guess it has to do with finding your way into the blogging machine/ mechanism/ habit or whatever we may prefer to call it.
A second point: I like the pic illustrating the post. That joining the dots activity that will end up showing a lovely seal (?) has strengthened the idea of “linking” expressed in the quotation. May be because I’m a visual type of person. Mind you, good strategy for keeping blog posts memorable and enhancing visitors, hence connections.
